Spain’s independent automotive aftermarket recently put technical excellence in the spotlight with one of the most demanding competitions ever organized for repair workshops. Led by the Spanish trade magazine AUTOPOS, the contest aimed to identify the best workshop in Spain based not only on speed, but also on diagnostic expertise, technical reasoning, and real‑world problem solving skills.
The final phase of the competition brought together some of the most skilled workshops in the country. Among the invited jury members were our colleagues from Autotecnic, now part of TecAlliance following its acquisition in 2025, together with Grup Eina, Cars Marobe, and Service Next. This diverse panel reinforced the role of workshop support companies as key players in technical assistance across Europe.
A Contest That Puts Diagnosis First
AUTOPOS designed this contest to reflect the true reality of modern workshops. Finalists were required to solve complex fault cases under time pressure, mirroring the daily diagnostic challenges technicians face when dealing with increasingly sophisticated vehicles.
Each workshop support or technical hotline company participating in the jury was asked to contribute by preparing a real fault case. These cases were then assigned to the competing workshops, who had to analyze symptoms, interpret technical data, and apply structured diagnostic processes to reach an accurate solution.
Our Sales Manager Francesc Creus Diaz, together with Francisco Javier López and Juan Ángel Sanz from the Autotecnic technical training team, attended the final, collaborating with other jury members to assess how the contestants approached the fault cases.
A Fault Case Designed to Challenge
For the jury members, preparing a fault case was no simple task. Each scenario had to be realistic, technically demanding, and solvable within the constraints of the competition. The goal was to separate routine troubleshooting from advanced diagnostic thinking.
Autotecnic’s contribution was grounded in real-world experience from its daily support of workshops. The fault case required contestants to connect symptoms with system logic, use diagnostic data correctly, and avoid common traps, which is exactly the kind of challenge technicians face when hotline support or guesswork is no longer enough.
Celebrating Technical Excellence
The final confirmed what many in the industry already know: the technical level of independent workshops in Spain continues to rise. The winner demonstrated not just knowledge, but composure, teamwork, and a structured diagnostic mindset.
Events like this contest play a crucial role in shaping the future of the automotive repair industry. As vehicles become more connected, electrified, and software-driven, competitions that emphasize real diagnostic skill help raise standards across the market.
We are proud to have contributed to this initiative and congratulate all participating workshops for their commitment, professionalism, and passion for the trade. Supporting workshops is not just about tools or data, but about empowering technicians to think, diagnose, and repair with confidence.
