To ensure the qualification of the staff in the future and optimise working conditions, TecAlliance is focussing on creative training methods for trainees and students in cooperative courses of study. At its office in Weikersheim TecAlliance is expanding its varied range of international training options and degree programmes.

The “Old Economy” is usually oriented toward the progressive solutions in the IT sector. With the introduction of a “training workshop” for new developers at the Weikersheim site, TecAlliance is demonstrating that the reverse approach can also lead to interesting solutions.

Customers and users have quickly gotten used to the fact that modern programs and applications offer more and more while they are also increasingly easy to use. This is made possible because the development and programming of such systems has become much more complex. TecAlliance’s first-year trainees and new students start with the basics of software development. However, the company’s experience has shown that the necessary knowledge can only be acquired in the standard training period with intensive support from the very beginning.

In Weikersheim, an old industrial tradition has been revived to bring future computer scientists together in a “training workshop”. In a physically separated area is a well-equipped “think tank” for the exclusive use of the 12 participants and their trainer, who was hired especially for this project. This is probably a unique solution in today’s IT sector. Bringing the trainees together in this way offers many advantages over distributing them among different departments:

  • The focus is on the trainee so that he or she receives intensive support; this cannot be pushed aside in favour of to the supervisor’s daily activities.
  • The usual department borders are eliminated, the transfer of knowledge is continuous and, despite the almost 60 % increase in the number of trainees, it is possible to guarantee that all the participants are taught the same content at a high level.
  • The trainees and students can better exchange ideas and help each other, even if they are in different years or courses.

The burden on the existing teams is also relieved because they do not have to teach the basics. Later they will be able to use the future employees more efficiently. There is a mentoring programme for 2nd/3rd year trainees to maintain the practical relevance for the future IT specialists, in which the mentors can share their on-the-job experiences and provide targeted help with exam preparation.

As it should be for a “workshop”, the “crafts” are not neglected: presentation techniques and selected project management methods are taught and applied intensively. These include Agile Methods using Scrum, which are particularly suitable for software development.

Afterwards, the world is open to the trainees and coop students: job rotation with deployments at the various TecAlliance sites, international practical experience and courses of study as far away as the Far East and collaboration with colleagues and fellow students from many nationalities. These are not only attractive but a prerequisite to keep up professionally.

“We are convinced that our creative approach and international orientation not only decisively increase the quality and efficiency of our training and degree programmes, but they also the make the work more attractive,” says Kerstin Langohr (Group Manager for Vocational Training). For 2018, TecAlliance is offering an additional 25 options for training or study.
