All participants in the automotive aftermarket have a common goal: running vehicles and satisfied car drivers. Smooth teamwork among workshops, distributors and manufacturers requires the maximum possible transparency, efficiency and effectiveness in spare parts. The TecDoc Catalogue is one of the leading search engines for car parts and vehicles worldwide. It is based on the TecDoc standard, which in 2019 has stood for the highest data quality in the independent aftermarket for 25 years. Alexander Wegner, Vice President Business Unit Data Manager Trade at TecAlliance, explains how garages, trade and industry are benefiting from the TecDoc Catalogue, which will be available from January 2019.
How does the TecDoc Catalogue support workshops, distributors and parts manufacturers in the automotive aftermarket?
AW: The everyday activities of workshops, parts distributors and parts manufacturers in the IAM involve completely different challenges. Nevertheless, two things are always in focus, namely searching and being found.
Workshops needs exact and fast part and vehicle identification as well as complete and current repair and maintenance information. Parts dealers want to build user-friendly online catalogues and effective e-commerce channels based on our global vehicle and spare parts catalogue. They also want to reduce false orders, respond quickly to customer wishes and provide good advice. For these they need to count on product information of the highest quality. And parts manufacturers need to ensure that their product information is optimally available worldwide with the required depth of detail.
The TecDoc Catalogue supports them all. With more than 75,000 vehicle types, more than 6.5 million items of article data from 700 brands and more than 250 million links, today it is the largest database for vehicles and parts in the world. And the TecDoc Standard stands for the highest data quality in the IAM.
What is special about article search with the TecDoc Catalogue?
AW: With the intuitive search function and the segmentation in 48 article groups, any spare part you search for is quickly found – from A to Z. The TecDoc Catalogue is also a unique reference work for repair research. It provides extensive article information and vehicle links from manufacturers, links to product videos and, last but not least, many installation instructions.
Workshops need part and vehicle identification and, above all, complete and up-to-date repair and maintenance information. How does one access this data?
AW: Repair and Maintenance Information is now very comfortably integrated into the TecDoc Catalogue. During the spare part search, users can access a lot of different information, i.e. vehicle identification number with the VIN filter, maintenance information, standard labour times, wheel and tyre information, recall actions and change services, test and adjustment values, tightening torques, and much more.
Here also, workshops profit from the high data quality, comfort and efficiency of the fast and powerful search and can be sure that they are accessing manufacturer-compliant information. Depending on how much repair and maintenance data the workshop needs, it can select the modules it needs from different ones.
We offer our customers in workshops and trade an extensive and integrated online catalogue in which they can find the right answers to all their questions about repair, service and spare parts.
So bieten wir unseren Kunden in Werkstatt und Handel einen umfassenden und integrierten Online-Katalog, in dem sie die richtigen Antworten zu allen Fragen rund um Reparatur, Service und Ersatzteile finden.
What integration options does the new TecDoc Catalogue offer?
AW: In the course of the year, it is also possible to build an individual e-commerce solution with web shop functionality based on the TecDoc Catalogue. The user profits from the integration of RMI data as well as the possibility to connect it to the TecAlliance Order Manager. Integration in existing e-business or catalogue systems is no problem due to the Web Service API from TecAlliance.
